An Approach to Conceptual Fit Analysis for COTS Selection
نویسنده
چکیده
One aspect that has received little attention in COTS selection is what we call conceptual fit, which we evaluate in terms of the existing misfits. We define the notion of conceptual misfit and we present an approach that determines the conceptual misfits between the user requirements and a set of candidate systems. The approach consists in defining a superschema, the mapping of the conceptual schemas of the candidate systems and of the user requirements to that superschema, and the automatic computation of the existing conceptual misfits. We believe that conceptual fit could be taken into account by almost all existing COTS selection methods.

Conceptual Fit: A Criterion for COTS Selection
COTS systems selection consists in evaluating the user requirements with respect to characteristics of candidate systems, using a set of criteria. One criterion that has received little attention is what we call conceptual fit. The criterion assesses the fit between the conceptual structure of the user requirements and that of a system. We evaluate the fit in terms of the existing misfits. We f...

One criterion that has received little attention in Commercial-off-theshelf (COTS) systems selection is what we call conceptual fit. The criterion assesses the fit between the conceptual structure of the user requirements and that of a candidate system. In this paper, we evaluate the fit in terms of the existing misfits. We formally define the notion of conceptual misfit and we present a method...
متن کاملIdentifying and Classifying Processes (Traditional and Soft Factors) that Support COTS Component Selection: A Case Study
COTS-Based Systems (CBS) development focuses on building large software systems by integrating previously existing software components. CBS success depends on successful evaluation and selection of Commercial-Off-TheShelf (COTS) software components to fit customer requirements. Literature shows that successful selection of offthe-shelf systems to fit customer requirements remains problematic. T...
متن کاملChapter 53 Applying Social - Technical Approach for Cots Selection
Selecting Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software components to fit requirements is still a problem because of the "black box" nature of COTS components and the rapid changes in marketplace. This paper describes the problems of COTS software evaluation and reviews existing frameworks to support COTS software evaluation and selection. Although a number of initiatives have been proposed to deal ...
متن کاملIdentifying processes that support COTS-Based Systems in Developing Countries
Although there have been many advances in the information technology (IT) field, developing countries (DCs) have not yet fully benefited because of some of the specific problems experienced by these countries. Examples include a lack of systems infrastructure and resources to invest in IT. COTS-Based Systems (CBS) offers a number of benefits that the developing countries can tap into such as re...
